I watched Backrooms last night. So good. So creepy.

If you're gay and terminally online, you'll know that this is the one where a twink films himself wearing a crop top. See below.

I'm a decent human being, so you're not gonna catch me making jokes about going bareback in the Backrooms or wanting to explore his backrooms. No siree.

Queer and Now

Everything new in the world of queer TV and film

— Russell T Davies is back with a new gay show titled Tip Toe. It's the angriest he's ever been, far angrier than I was when he killed Colin in It's a Sin.

Alan Cumming stars opposite David Morrisesey as a Canal Street club owner who gets into some bother with his neighbour. The less you know going in, the better, but I will say that Tip Toe is tapping into conversations that I've never seen discussed before on TV, and it's LONG overdue.

Check out episodes 1-2 from Sunday 31st on Channel 4 before the show concludes a week later with episodes 3-5.

— Catholic boy meets hot bad boy. Catholic boy bangs hot bad boy. It's a tale as old as time! Still, it's not one we see all too often on screen, especially in Thai BL fare, so I'm super excited to check out Ticket To Heaven this week starting May 30th.

Watch the trailer starring Nattawat Jirochtikul and Norawit Titicharoenrak below to find out where to watch new episodes online.

— I'm a simple guy. I see something starring Allison Janney, I press play.

That's why I'm really excited to check out Miss You, Love You on HBO MAX from today.

If Mother somehow wasn't enough to pique your interest, the film also stars Andrew Rannells opposite Janney's grieving widow who's forced to plan her husband's funeral with her estranged son's assistant. Not awks at all!

— Prolific Hong Kong director Herman Yau is back with a new film called We're Nothing At All, which is explosive in perhaps the worst way possible.

After a double-decker bus suddenly bursts into flames on Valentine's Day, a forensic specialist investigates the lives of the dead, including two gay lovers called Fai and Ike.

I've heard some mixed reviews on how the queer representation is handled, but if you want to see Hong Kong pop stars Anson Kong and Ansonbean do gay shit, I wouldn't blame ya! (out now in UK cinemas)

Queer Awakenings

You know, the hotties who "turned" you gay.

Being gay is NOT a choice. How do I know? Because I was always going to be gay after seeing this as a kid.

To paraphrase the Boulet Brothers, Cinema is art and art is subjective. That's my way of saying that the OG Mortal Kombat movie is a masterpiece because it stars Robin Shou, a masterpiece of human perfection.

The prolific actor, martial artist and stuntman needs to get prolific in my bedroom real quick because his Liu Kang was so goddamn sexy. That hair alone! And those titties, my god.

Upon some extensive stalking searching, I've discovered that Shou is 183cm, just like me. Dare I say we must be soul mates?

Shou also gets bonus points for helping to train Milla Jovovich for her role in Resident Evil. Kings supporting queens. We love to see it!

Just to add, the guy who plays Liu Kang in the new Mortal Kombat movies (Ludi Lin) is gorgeous too.

Finish him? Don't mind if I do.

Out Takes

Queer hidden gems you need to see

I'm feeling extra summery today. Maybe it's the heat wave. Maybe it's the knowledge that global warming will bring the apocalypse soon so I don't have to pay any more bills.

Whatever the reason, I figured today would be a great time to celebrate a summery gem I've loved for a while called Princess Cyd.

Stephen Cone's feature is a delicate affair starring Jessie Pinnick as the titular 16 year-old who spends the summer in Chicago with her aunt Miranda.

During her visit, Cyd navigates emerging desires for both men and women while growing closer to her estranged relative. Together, Cyd and Miranda open up to each other in honest, sometimes painful ways over the course of one summer, growing into new and better versions of themselves.

The usual coming of age tropes are all there, but Cone’s script is more interested in the smaller details, taking joy in Cyd’s exploration of her identity (which the film never labels outright).

There's a sweet, winning charm to Cyd and the story as a whole which celebrates the healing power of community and femininity, reminding us to find joy in the quieter moments.

And if that still doesn't grab you, Cyd rocks a tux perhaps even better than Blake Lively did in A Simple Favor

Watch Princess Cyd now before Cone's next film, System of Colors, comes out so you can be smug about how great he is.
